1. Self Love starts with gratitude.



Self love is a difficult practice, however it doesn’t have to be. On your daily commute, practice gratitude. Start by saying thank you outloud for the things you have in your life. It could be as simple as thank you for the sky, thank you for the earth etc. all the way to thank you for my job, thank you for my family. Anything that you appreciate will aid you in your journey of self love. By appreciating what you already have, you recognize all you have done to make this amazing life for yourself. You did it all on your own and you can continue to do so. By bringing gratitude into the universe, you can manifest more of that good into it as well.



2. Remove excess stressors from your life.



We all have things that just really stress us out. Saying no and setting boundaries isn’t the most fun, but it can be the most beneficial. Saying no can be as small as getting a babysitter for thirty minutes a week, up to turning down that extra job offer because the workload isn’t worth the pay. By allowing yourself to remove the excess stressors of your life, you will gain more free time to do things that bring you joy. Sometimes self love is putting yourself first, and by setting firm boundaries and saying no you are protecting your mental health and stability.



3. Catch yourself, and remove those negative thoughts.



You know those times when you hear someone speak negatively about themselves and it bothers you? Now take a closer look. How many times do you participate in negative self talk and not realize it? Well it’s time to pay more attention and catch that negative self talk before or while it’s falling out of your mouth. Every time you recognize yourself engaging in negative self talk, mentally or verbally, take a second and say ‘scratch that’ and replace it with a positive thought or compliment about yourself. By partaking in this practice, you will be able to rewire your brain out of negative self talk habits and replace it with more positive self talk. Over time, you will notice your general overview of yourself improving and finding it easier to show yourself love and respect.



4. While washing your face or taking a shower, choose a mantra that speaks to you and repeat it to yourself.



Mantras may seem foreign, but they can be extremely beneficial when learning to love yourself. When repeating a mantra, you training your self conscious mind to believe the statement, while picking up on the positive energy used with that mantra throughout history. By capitalizing on those historic ‘good vibes’, you are raising your vibration to one of love, self respect, and honesty. By training your subconscious mind with this mantra, you will find it easier to treat yourself with respect and show yourself love over an extended period of time.


5. Be honest with yourself.



Honesty, vulnerability, and transparency are the most difficult yet important part of learning to love self. Being honest with where you are at on your self love journey is only the tip of the iceberg. Think of it this way:


If your best friend was partaking in something you don’t feel great about, what would you tell them to do?

Now think about the things in your own life, how can you be your own best friend? What would you advise yourself to do in different situations?


By keeping this thought in mind, and being vulnerable and honest with yourself, how would your life change? It’s important to keep this mentality, because if you can’t be honest with yourself, who else can you be honest with?
